EASTER MESSAGE DELIVERED BY HIS LORDSHIP, RT. REVD. CHAMBERLAIN CHINEDUM OGUNEDO JP, BISHOP OF THE DIOCESE OF MBAISE AT THE CATHEDRAL CHURCH OF ST. MICHAEL AND ALL ANGELS IFE.
Dear People of God.
In the Name of God the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Halleluyah! Christ is Risen, He is Risen Indeed, Halleluyah!
We are appreciative to God for His goodness and mercies; His compassion and grace bestowed on us over these years especially, as we recount the devastating Covid-19 Pandemic that has ravaged the world and left our nation on tales of woes; the strict measures to avert the menace and the consequential stand still in the world system.
Amidst these odds, both the Church and Government were almost thrown off balance yet God in His Mercy, rescued humanity from extinction hallowed His name above the changes and chances of life. The Church continued unabated; waxing stronger in faith and testimonies of God’s providence and blessings. His grace is sufficient, abundant and amazing; He has not failed nor changed neither would He not perfect His good works in our lives.
This year 2021 is very spectacular; unique and amazingly challenging in nature, bearing the lingering effects of all that have beset mankind and the imposing reality that demands an extraordinary move towards an improved status for an overall development of humanity.
Therefore, our theme, “Come unto me and have rest” Matt. 11:28 is contextually timely, apt and challenging in a time like this. Jesus our Lord and Saviour, made this clarion call to all mankind, having known that human struggles and aspirations have failed to be productive but caused despair; anxiety and curiosity to such that man is left at cross roads, being confused and in total dismay.
The abandonment of man in this confused state while adventuring for enhanced status or well being is the product of hopelessness and helplessness for not seeking for the right way or medium to achieving success in life. Jesus is the Ultimate revelation of God and true manifest to mankind verse 27.
It is therefore not a shock that men struggle alone without the knowledge of Christ who is the embodiment of God, the source of every good and perfect gift, and succumb to failure. Any determination that is not entrusted in Christ is futile. Jesus Christ is the link between God and man; the Mediator, our Lord and Saviour.
Easter is the bedrock of God’s Salvific mission in Christ to redeem mankind from sin through His death and resurrection unto glory. Sin has continually been a barrier; a hindrance and blockage to a purposeful life. Jesus is the propitiation for our sins; an advocate with the Father and our Passover Lamb. “This saying is true and worthy of full of acceptance that Christ Jesus came to the world to save sinners” – 1 Tim. 1:15.
The heavy laden nature of vicious things that have left the world in comatose; insecurity; kidnapping; terrorism; banditry; the menace of the Fulani herdsmen and the Boko Haram; nepotism; bad governance; armed robbery; rape; vandalism; blood bathing etc evolve from not encountering Jesus Christ into our lives. We are constantly overwhelmed by man’s inhumanity to man, and unimaginable atrocities.
Jesus is the way, the life and the Truth. He is the man in whose knowledge brings understanding and purpose driven intentions that knit mankind together and bring down the glory of God. The terrible happenings in our Country can only be defeated if we surrender and give our lives to Christ who has paid the prices of these destructive tendencies. He took to the Cross every distractions that ensnared us and gave us victory by His death and glorious resurrection. Christ is our peace, He has reconciled us to God in one body by the Cross, we meet in His Name and share His peace.
Let us therefore, eschew rancor and bitterness and aggressions; forebearing one another; being our brother’s keeper and seeking for the good of one another.
May we fight the fight of faith; standing against every manner of evil by the Word of Truth and ensuring that justice, fairness and equity reign in our land. We are Christ’s ambassadors and joint heirs of the Father. Let us live the life that begets our calling.
And now to Him who is able to keep us from stumbling and to present us faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, to God our Saviour who alone is wise be glory and majesty, Dominion and Power both now and forever. Amen.
We wish you happy Easter and the fruitful harvest of the moment.
Your Friend, Pastor & Bishop,
Rt. Revd. Chamberlain C. Ogunedo, JP
